In our nasal cavity, we have structures responsible for filtering, moisturizing and heating the air. There are 6 in total, three on the right and three on the left.

Inside them there is a bony nucleus. The position and shape of this nucleus does not change, but the soft part surrounding the nucleus has the ability to change volume by inflating and deflating. Moreover, the right and left nasal septum do not inflate and deflate at the same time, on the contrary, they exhibit their inflation - deflation functions alternately, they rest each other alternately. Even if one side is slightly closed, the other side is more open.

They spread warmth and moisture throughout the nasal cavity thanks to a rich network of blood vessels and a specialized covering tissue capable of producing abundant secretions. In this way, they come into contact with the air that enters the nasal cavity and begin to warm and moisturize it immediately. They also retain dust and other foreign particles that enter the nose thanks to the slimy sticky secretion coated on their surface.

These functions make the nasal cavities not just a corridor for breathing in, but an air refinery that works to bring the air to the ideal quality for the lungs. As you can understand, nasal meatus are not unnecessary excesses, but essential structures for respiratory quality.

As a result of the disruption of the growth and shrinkage functions of the nasal flesh, we encounter overgrowth. This is caused by tobacco products, allergic predisposition, air pollution, inadequate water drinking and nose cleaning habits, eating-snacking close to sleep, incomplete treatment of respiratory tract infections and some other diseases.

Excessive growth of these structures, which we call nasal flesh in Turkish and concha in medical language, creates congestion. We call its enlarged state as Concha Hypertrophy.

There is a chance of shrinkage with drug treatments, but this chance depends on finding the cause of growth.

If surgery is necessary, we shrink these structures painlessly and without bleeding with special apparatus without making a physical incision. These procedures, which we can perform with devices such as radiofrequency reduction, plasma kinetic, harmonic scalpel, laser, thermal welding, etc., can be performed under general anesthesia, but mostly local anesthesia is sufficient. After 1-2 hours of hospitalization, we send you off without pain, bleeding and tampons.
